Answering your questions about therapy at TBCAC
We offer free, specialized therapy to help children recover from trauma at their own pace.
-
Therapy at TBCAC is available for:
Children who have participated in our Intervention Services.
Non-offending caregivers who live with the child and play a key role in their healing journey.
Non-offending family members, including siblings, who live in the same home and may also need support.
We’re here to help the whole family heal together in a safe and supportive environment.
-
Our therapy services are designed to meet each person’s unique emotional, psychological, and developmental needs. Our experienced therapists use proven, trauma-informed approaches to support healing, including:
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) – Helping children process their experiences and build healthy coping skills.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – Reducing trauma-related stress and helping reframe difficult memories.
Play Therapy – A child-friendly approach that allows kids to express emotions and heal through play.

Every child’s healing journey is unique. Some may need therapy for a few months, while others may benefit from ongoing support. Our therapists work with each family to determine the best plan.
-
Sessions are held in a safe, comfortable space at our center, designed to help children feel at ease.
-
That’s completely okay! Our therapists use age-appropriate, non-pressuring techniques to help children express themselves in ways that feel comfortable—whether through talking, play, or creative activities.
-
All therapy services at TBCAC are completely free for eligible children and their non-offending family members. We believe every child deserves access to support and healing without financial barriers.
-
If your child has received Intervention Services at TBCAC, getting started with therapy is easy. Just call us at (231) 929-4250 and ask to leave a message for our Therapy Team. Our Clinical Intake Coordinator will get back to you within two business days to help set up your first session.
What to Expect:
First Session: This is an intake interview with the parent or guardian and the therapist. We’ll talk about any concerns and how we can best support your child. We ask that caregivers attend this session alone to ensure we can have an open conversation.
Second Session: We’ll schedule your child’s first therapy session and begin ongoing support. If your child is already working with another provider, we’ll provide a release of information form to coordinate care.
We’re here to help every step of the way—don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!
-
Life happens, and we understand! If you need to cancel or change your therapy appointment, please give us a call at least 24 hours in advance so we can adjust our schedule.
For bad weather or unsafe road conditions, call us the morning of your appointment to let us know if you need to reschedule. If TBCAC closes due to weather, we’ll reach out to you—otherwise, assume we’re open and ready to see you!

Yes! We know life can be busy, and sometimes getting to an in-person therapy session isn’t easy. That’s why we offer Telehealth Therapy for kids and teens ages 7-18. With a secure online video platform like Zoom or Microsoft Teams, children can connect with our therapists from any private space with internet access.
Before starting, we’ll do a Telehealth screening and assessment to make sure this option is the right fit for your child and family.
Why Choose Telehealth Therapy?
Works around busy school and work schedules
Reduces time away from school and other activities
Removes transportation and distance barriers
Research shows it can be just as effective as in-person therapy
Helps maintain regular sessions, which can lead to faster progress
What Do You Need for Telehealth?
A laptop, smartphone, or tablet with a reliable internet connection
A private, quiet space for the session
A designated adult nearby for safety
A parent/caregiver present for all home-based sessions, available to check in with the therapist and help reinforce therapy skills
To protect confidentiality, we only use HIPAA-compliant platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Skype and FaceTime are not considered secure.
